We have just finished our first week of school at Jones Elementary! Our teachers and students were excited to return to school and we had a very successful week. We had an awesome turn out for our "Meet the Teacher" night!
On the first day of school we met with all students in grades one through five. We welcomed all new students to Jones Elementary and we welcomed our returning students as well.
Students learned who our school was named after--Anson Jones. Anson Jones was the last President of the Republic of Texas.
Students learned the Panther Laws:
1. Treat others the way you want to be treated (The Golden Rule)
2. Keep hands and feet to yourself
3. Always walk while on school grounds (assures safety of all)
4. Absolutely NO Bullying (everybody will be provided a safe learning environment)
5. Always do your BEST!
We discussed the importance of coming to school every day! When a student misses a day of school they return and have work to make up. Our school day is 8:00-3:00. If children are going to eat breakfast they need to be at school between 7:30 and 7:45. Children will be marked tardy if they enter the school after 8:00.
All Jones students need to read every evening. Like riding a bike the only way a child becomes a good fluent reader is to practice. Our goal is for all Jones students to be reading on grade level. Reading logs will be sent home every Friday for the following week. Please sign your child's reading log daily. Return the completed log to school every Monday.
Every first through fifth grader received a red bracelet that says "Be the One--Jones Elementary." We expect every Jones student to be the ONE to:
work hard, make good choices, always do their best, help others, do their homework, keep our school safe, have a positive attitude, read every night, be respectful, be good role models, keep our school neat and clean, always try, never give up etc (These were ideas shared by our Jones students)! We are encouraging our students to wear their bracelet to school each day.
We discussed the importance of keeping the school grounds clean (everybody picks up after themselves). We are proud of our school, Jones Elementary, Home of the Panthers!
I am excited about the new school year and all the great things our students will be achieving this year!
